Wiring on the 2009 Dodge Journey
Curt Clayton of Auto Trenz in Independence, Mo., shows us around the 2009 Dodge Journey’s wiring system for security and remote start installations.

View of the engine compartment access area from under the hood. It’s to the left of the brake booster.

The Total Integrated Power Module (TIPM) is found under the hood behind the driver’s headlight. Most of the wires needed for keyless entry, security and remote start can be found here.

There are four plastic tabs, one at each corner, needed to release the TIPM to gain access to the wires. The battery is found under the TIPM module and behind the front bumper.

When moving the TIPM around, pay close attention to the constant 12-volt power wire that can short out on the fender. If you can, place a towel on the fender and cover the TIPM when working with it.

On the underside of the TIPM, most wires will be found in the lower black connector that’s closest to the main battery cable attached to the TIPM.

With the black plug disconnected, it is easy to locate the proper wire and make the connections. The left front door trigger is (-) purple, pin 11. The right front door trigger is (-) purple/white, pin 12. The left rear door trigger is (-) purple/grey, pin 16. The right rear door trigger is (-) purple/yellow, pin 14. Use all four wires and isolate with diode. The door lock (-330 ohm) is purple/dark green, pin 2. The door unlock (-100 ohm) is the same as the lock wire, purple/dark green, pin 2. The brake wire is (+) white/dark green, pin 10. The trunk hatch pin is (-) purple/orange, pin 15.

The blue connector contains the starter wire, which is (+) yellow/grey, pin 8. It’s not needed for remote start.

The black connector closest to the blue connector contains the ignition wire, which is (+) pink/white. It also can be found at the ignition switch.
